A professor in human resource management at King’s College London, Ogbonnaya highlighted the importance of focusing on efficiency during our conversation. “Rather than viewing employees as a cost center, businesses should see them as a source of innovation and value,” he says. “Focusing on efficiency can unleash hidden potential within the existing team.” His advice aligns with findings that suggest maintaining a stable workforce contributes to higher innovation rates within companies, further underscoring the importance of leveraging your team’s potential rather than diminishing it.

Not all expenses are equally critical to the health of a business. Some spending areas directly impact revenue generation and customer satisfaction, which are essential for long-term success. Finally, it’s essential to approach cost-cutting with a long-term perspective. While short-term cuts can provide immediate financial relief, they should not undermine the company’s growth potential or reputation. Instead, develop a strategic plan that balances cost management with investments in growth opportunities.
